Intelligent Library Buildings: Proceedings of the 10th Seminar of the Ilfa Section on Library Buildings and Equipment by Marc Chauveinc, Is an intelligent building automatically a functional library? Part of a continuing work on the physical framework of the library, these proceedings reveal how libraries around the world are meeting the design challenges posed by the new priorities and dynamics of the information environment. The experiences and expertise of library managers as well as architects and engineers are featured within papers covering specialized institutions and public libraries alike, including the Tilburg Digital Library; the Rotterdam Library; the Denver Public Library; the New York Public Library's Science, Industry and Business Library; the Venezuelan National Library; and more. National Science Digital Library - The National Science Digital Library (NSDL) intends to become the comprehensive source for science, technology, engineering and mathematics education. Library of Congress Digital Library project - The Library of Congress National Digital Library Program (NDLP) is assembling a digital library of reproductions of primary source materials to support the study of the history and culture of the United States. Begun in 1995 after a five-year pilot project, the program began digitizing selected collections of Library of Congress archival materials that chronicle the nation's rich cultural heritage. National library - Category:Library and information science National Oceanographic Data Center - The National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) manages the acquisition, ingest processing, quality control and long-term preservation of oceanographic data. Oceanographic data in digital form is sorted, categorized and assigned unique identification numbers at ingest (non-digital data and information are normally incorporated in the NOAA Library, but are always considered for future conversion to digital form to support modern access and retrieval methodologies).

Library and In... Vol. The organization of knowledge for efficient retrieval of relevant information is also a major research goal of LIS. LIS should not be confused with information theory, the mathematical study of issues related to libraries. The politics of academia, issues of status and prestige, issues of perceived obsolescence and other forces created these programs. In a more present-day view, a fervent outgrowth of LIS is information architecture.
